Vacancy of Offshore Roustabout

A major drilling contractor engaged in management of inland and offshore oil drilling rig operations in Tanzania, is looking to hire a Roustabout of the Tanzanian origin, of legal age, a holder of a valid passport issued by the Tanzanian authorities, to work on oil exploration and production facilities (semisubmersibles or drillships). Ideal candidate for this opening should meet the following additional requirements:

• 3 to 5 years of experience working on offshore platforms or oil drilling units
• Holder of OPITO approved offshore certificates like BOSIET (Basic Offshore Safety Induction & Emergency Training) and HUET (Helicopter Safety and Escape Training)
• Related experience and/or training in the kindred industry like, for example, mining, or on sea vessels, considered an advantage

Responsibilities

Responsibilities for this Rousabout position are numerous, including but not limited to:

• Visual inspection, storage, and maintenance of drilling equipment; getting the equipment ready for drilling before the drilling process actually starts;
• Keeping drilling deck clean, tidy, and free from unnecessary objects and the waste
• Assist the welder and be responsible for anti fire procedure and anti arson measures
• Move drilling equipment and materials to and from the drill floor and around the installation in a safe and proper manner.
• Providing Platform Deck assistance as instructed
• Provide assistance during installation and removal of wellhead equipment
• Act as Electrician, Motorman, Derrickhand, Mechanic, Painter, Roughneck, and other oil rig trades helper, should there need arise
• Performing general housekeeping duties around the rig
• Assist crane operator by leading loads as they are being moved around the deck and the rig
• Substitute Roughnecks, acting in turn as one of them when they have to take meals or snack while drilling process can't be interrupted
• Perform any other duties as instructed by superiors and supervisors

Job location: Cape Town, South Africa. Therefore the candidate should be aware of the necessity to travel. If not acceptable, you do not qualify. Salary is to be negotiated, benefits included. This is a permanent position with the perspective of promotion to better paid offshore positions like Derrickman, Driller, Rig manager etc., if willing to get trained at one of the available advanced oil drilling personnel training programs.
